Bleeding from mouth - normal?

Hi

My 1 yr old DD was unsettled at breakfast today. She was grinding her teeth which she only does when teeth really bothering her (she has ten teeth at moment). Then I noticed bright red blood in her mouth which then trickled down her chin (like something out of a Halloween horror film). There was enough blood for it to drip down and stain her clothes.

Just wanting to know if it's common for gums to bleed like this when teething? I have seen only a tiny speck of blood on her gums before when she was cutting her 9th tooth.

Also she has never bled anywhere else before and has no history of any haematological disorder.

Thanks.

I don't think enough blood to trickle is normal.

Sounds like she bit through the gum (covering an emerging tooth), my DS did this a couple of months ago with his 4th and 5th teeth which came through together. The cut area of gum bled a few mins then stopped - the raw bit was visible for a few days. I think sometimes the teeth cause so much pain as they push through, that chewing through the gum gives them relief.
Maybe not "usual" to do this, but I doubt it's actually "abnormal" either.

Or maybe she bit her tongue - even a minor nip to the tongue can bleed a lot, but will also heal in only a day or two.

Thanks for response.
The bleeding stopped pretty quickly. Think you're right about breaking the gums. Seemed to give her a bit of relief. It was odd though to see her grinning whilst blood dribbled down her face!
