sleep walking and bunk beds

We were planning to put dd and ds in bunk beds - dd (4) on top - but she has started occasionally sleep walking. Didn't realise it was that but have googled and it seems it is. She wanders into the living room disorientated and agitated but not conscious or communicative. I take her back to bed, get her to lie down and she's straight back to sleep.

I had assumed this meant bunk beds weren't safe but have since read that sleepwalkers sometimes do very complex things in their sleep so maybe she'd be alright(!) she hasn't done it for a few weeks.

I'll probably stick to safe over sorry but just interested to hear other experiences. It's a shame because we have little space and bunkbeds would have helped a lot.

no idea about sleep walking but mine were in bunk beds from that age, another alternative is to get a mid sleeper and then put a toddler bed undeaneath for your younger child, that way it isnt so high up and it still save space? and some bunk beds arent as high anyway you can get ones designed for houses with low ceilings etc, maybe something like that? :)

That's a good idea. ds is almost able to climb out of cot - not safe - and just looked in room and two beds in there is going to be a real squeeze. Maybe as you say we can find a half way measure.

last bump for sleep walk experts (but realise it's probably going to have to be two beds after googling. annoying as she mostly doesn't sleep walk, but has patches.)
