20 weeks - freaky crying

I wonder if anyone could identify with this or help me understand my DD. She has suddenly started shrieking and wailing at bedtime for about 3 hours on and off. She has always slept in her own cot (in our room) and always used to fall asleep after a big bottle, wake 45 minutes later needing winding, then sleep until about 4am when she would have a short night feed. We did have some problems with reflux about 6 weeks ago, but she has been on a comfort formula since then and has done much better.
Anyway, the last 4 nights she has been desperately fighting sleep and wailing (and I mean that awful "I'm in pain" wail) on and off for 3 hours. She has just had 2 weeks of eating MASSES (but has been eating a bit less the last few days), putting on a lot of weight and starting to crawl backwards. Is this some kind of reaction to a developmental stage?
I am just not sure how to help her. At the moment my husband and I take turns soothing her, putting her down (awake) and helping her to relax. She is teething a bit too (and she is taking a homeopathic remedy for that.) But what I don't understand is she goes down fine at her naps.
Thanks for any insight or advice, I just want to help her!

Oh and she was at the doctor's for a weigh in and she could not see anything wrong with her - apart from her teeth. Could it all be down to teeth?
She is my first... I feel a bit clueless suddenly!

if she is uncomfortable with her teeth then calpol will help

how are her daytimes naps going? IME if daytime naps go wonky then night time sleep goes haywire too !

Renard · 27/10/2011 10:22

i tried calpol and NO difference, very odd. Hmmm daytime ok. I do find that if she sleeps too much in the day she wakes more at night, which is au contraire to pretty much everyone on the planet!

Does anyone have ANY advice!? I have been in to settle her 5 times in the last hour. She is HYSTERICAL again. (It is 20.20 where we are, abroad) I have winded, checked everything.... She falls asleep for anything from 5 - 30 mins then wakes immediately screaming. Am nearly in tears myself, do not understand what is wrong.

Renard · 27/10/2011 17:34

yes. helped for half an hour, then all the same again. could it be she is ready for solids?

It really does sound like teething.

There isn't a magic cure but some things I try are. Calpol, Calgel, a wet flannel to chew on, putting DS in a sling, OH taking DS for a long walk in the pram (so i get a bit of sleep), DS sleeping on me(me flat on back DS tummy to tummy), frequent nappy changes(DS's wee gets really strong when he is teething).
DS has just cut his 4th tooth and while it doesn't get easier I get better at dealing with it.
Also we once had teething combined with a Urinary Track Infection. You could smell your DD wee. If it is fishy smelling then it could be a UTI at the same time.

Good Luck!

it's very normal. we used to have to dance with ds1 for about 4 hours every night at this point. Grin he'd eventually settle about 11, and then would wake every 2 hours to feed.

i was dead skinny by the time he was 10 mos and stopped the nonsense.

tabulahrasa · 27/10/2011 19:42

DD used to wake up a couple of hours after bedtime and scream frantically for about 3 hours when she was teething

Renard · 28/10/2011 07:11

Thank you all for your advice. I feel better knowing it is "normal"! She is in a great mood this morning... But constantly dribbling and with her and in her mouth, must be the teeth.
