SUDDENLY OPPOSITE TO HER ROUTINE!

My DD is nearly one, and for 2 weeks now has totally abandoned all routine! She's always slept through at least 12 hours a night.. now we're up to her in the night. She's always had at least 1 nap in the day of at least 90 mins.. now no nap at all. She's always slept in her car-seat.. now she screams. What's this all about??? She's SO miserable at times as she's tired, when she's always been so happy.... Any ideas?

Is she teething?

blueshoes · 28/12/2005 09:19

With my dd, her sleep went from bad to v.v. bad from 1 year. I second hunker's point about teething. My dd was calpol-ed to the gills.

Will she nap in the buggy if you take her out for a walk? Nice and snug, of course, in this miserable weather.

I am assuming you don't think that she is otherwise ill. MMR?

Agree with teething thought - DD's worst teething was around then. Other thought: milestones - walking? Mine had a lot of sleep disturbance around starting standing and then starting walking - apparently bits of brain are frantically joining up at that point! Which info at least helped me feel calmer about it all...

She HAS only got 4 front teeth, so COULD be teething. She has started dropping off in her buggy (which she never has before now) but it's being able to take her out all the time.. as I don't feel too good at the moment! No Blueshoes, she doesn't seem ill either, just like a strange baby at the mo... not mine. Even though her 4 teeth came through with no problem, I don't suppose that means the others will be as easy, does it?

MollyMM, sorry to hear you are not feeling good. It is so difficult to care for a little one when you yourself are not 100%. I hope you are getting some support .

On teething, I understand different children react to teething differently. Some children have it exceptionally bad at first, then mysteriously sorts itself for later teeth. Others, like dd, has it bad throughout. The later teeth esp canines and molars are generally more painful, sad to say. But my dd's teething stopped around 18 months (ouch, must seem like an eternity to you) after 14 teeth. I think she is storing it up for her final 6 - no sign yet.

For my dd, teething is not just the point when the teeth erupt through the gums. There could be no sign of new teeth but they could be moving under the gums and still very painful. Her teething at your dd's age was usually accompanied by loose stools, drooling, colds, sometimes fever, general crankiness and of course, disrupted sleep. I always felt that nature was not fair to inflict teething on little ones (and their mummies)!

Thanks Blueshoes. Generally, my DD has had brilliant health- Only 1 cold in 12 months.. not even a nappy-rash, so I can't really grumble. She's actually just gone to sleep in her cot without any fuss, so hopefully, things are looking up.... HAPPY NEW YEAR!

My baby is 6 months old next week. No sign of teeth but drooling lots. Good routine at night but not happy about daytime naps unless she is on someone. She is a very happy soul. I have started weaning her even though she is not 6 months, i find the health visitor quite intimidating and she gives conflicting advice to my dr. Usually not worried until i come out of her office so haven't been for a month. Am on my own with my daughter cos partner changed his mind about being a dad when i was 7 months pregnant, find it difficult dealing with him now.
