DD has started to make a very strange growling noise, its accompanied by a sort of straining face but its not a poo. She used to do it rarely, we thought it was when she was tired but this week shes doing it most of the time.

We went for a long walk today and she just kept making this strange noise over and over again. she doesnt seem to be in any distress but somethimes (usually in the evening) it gets much louder and she goes red in the face but it doesnt look to me like pain. She seems to be forcing the sound out of her mouth, DP says she looks like she enjoys making the noise Hmm

It has coincided with her rolling onto her front and her starting to make a lot more noise in general, the HV says its temper but if thats true shes got a temper most of the time!!

Is it just her finding her voice??

I think she's just finding her voice! My baby does the exact same thing so it's nice to hear someone else's does! I think your baby is just enjoying exploring the noises she can make and is quite pleased that she's able to make such a loud one :)

Ah yes, the growling. It began about the same time for us too. DS has gone through several stages of attachment to various noises he makes, but i remember the growling as one that particularly grated on me. To this day i love to hear my DS's new noises - he takes such delight in them. But the growling i can do without.

DS1 used to do this around the same age. I nearly changed his christening into an exorcism [hgrin]

Perfectly normal, she is testing out those vocal chords.

I know of two girls that growled, i even have video footage of my god daughter doing it! :o

blackoutthesun · 25/10/2011 21:07

yep my dd did it, sounded like a bunch of farmyard animals Grin

then she found her voice with every waking moment 'shouting'

Thanks for all the replies, she is sitting in her bouncy chair watching TV at the moment and she is growling at the top of her voice with a look of absolute glee on her face!! She does it over and over, its quite rhythmic!!

I have been told she has reflux (shes sick quite a lot and so is on gaviscon now) so i guess i was just a bit worried it was linked to that but im glad its just her development - ill be glad when she thinks shes mastered it and moves onto something else!!

wheredidiputit, I'm with you all the way. After growling came the constant squealing for hours and hours. She thought she was hilarious! :)

DS started doing this around the same age as your DD is and has only recently calmed down! He's 9.5 months, so it's a noise you'll get used to if she's anything like DS... Smile
