Should I introduce cot bumpers at 9 mo?

Ds has been in his cot since he went into his own room at 6mo. Never had bumpers. However, now he is trying to pull himself up and I am scared he will fall backwards and hit his head off the other side of the cot. Should I use bumpers for this reason?

No because he could use the bumper as a step and get out the cot and come down with a big bump onto the floor. Or he could get caught upmin itmwith potentially serious results.

They are a sids risk. so, no, I wouldnt.

The fall you describe wouldn't be a far one and such a bump would be a small one.

I have wondered the same thing since ds 10.5 months started hitting his head off the cot turning around in bed a couple of months ago, but decided not worth the other risks. Althought is sounds painful he doesn't cry.
As previous posters have said the bumper could pose more danger than it avoids.

Glad to read that article - I'd been thinking about getting one for 10m DS because he sticks his feet through the bars and then when he turns over they get caught and he wakes up (he does NOT sleep well so anything to avoid him waking up!)

I've read lots of times that you should remove cot bumpers once they can stand. They're really only for decoration.

Hi, I had the same issue and I ended up buying some from ebay (I think they were called breath easy???), they are like a mesh and are completely safe in my opinion. You can breath through them and they don't allow LO's to stand on them as they just collapse. They dont provide loads of padding but just enough IMO.

The breathable ones are pretty good and collapse when the baby stands on them so would be ok for an older baby, I have this one www.safedreams.co.uk
