I do remember seeing my ds do something similar for a bit, probably at the same time as yours, and was a little worried (sort of tremory movements but very brief) but it passed and I'd forgotten all about it. If it persists it's probably worth checking but you can bet he won't do it while anyone else is watching.

Both mine did this with their legs if i pushed/touched the soles of their feet for the first few weeks.

Elf1981 · 10/12/2005 23:27

Is it not due to the fact that babies have 'immature' nervous systems. I read in one book (What to Expect in the first year) that a babies chin will quiver / tremble which is due to the nervous system in new borns. Perhaps it's the same reason?
As dobbin says, get it checked, but no doubt it wont happen when anybody else is watching. Took my DD to casulty the other day (she's nearly 10 weeks) due to a terrible bad cough and struggling to breath, as soon as the doors closed behind us to be seen, she was as happy as larry!

Both mine did this, particularly dd who was on the tiny side. She did a lot of throwing her arms back and shaking her whole body. I swa an 8 week old baby today.....so cute.

Congrats btw +

lisalisa- DS1 did this-are you vaccinating (I;m assuming not - given previious history which I why I ask).( I'm jimjams)-it's suposedly a sugn of an immature nervous system- and if I saw it again if I was going to vaccinate I would delay iykwim- although obviously I haven't etc etc. Garbled but I think you may know what I mean.

stitchcantthinkofgoodxmassname · 11/12/2005 08:52

dd did this when she was a few weeks old.
i freaked, as babies this young are not suppoesed to be able to shiver. took her to see the consultant who checked her out completely, and said she was fine and would outgrow it. which she did

dd1 used to shake when she got angry as a tiny baby. I didnt know about the vaccination thing though.

I wouldn't worry too much then. There's a suggestion that immature systems are more likely to be knocked off course (see Stella Waterhouse- a posiutive approach to autism for more details- not specifically about vax), more vulnerable etc, but as you've already made the decision it doesn't really matter.

I think they soon stop. Hope you're enjoying number 5 (wow!)

Yes good idea to mention it at the check up. Have you tried swaddling ? - worked great with my two
