how long has she been walking?? I would try a pair of soft soled shoes, something like Doddles, that can be wore outside and are soft too.

NannyL · 26/11/2005 10:56

does she really have hard soled shoes already?

or is she one of theose really early walkers who have been walking for months already!?)

did u go to clarks.... they have there first shoes there, whoich are proper shoes but with slightly softer soles ideal for babies who have only been walking recently (and essentail until they stop curling toes, which is typically 6 - 8 weeks after walking, but some take more / less time (obviously)

ds wore the rubber soled pre-walkers for a good few months after he walked. dd has really soft nubuck uppers but slightly stiffer sole. She was also a good walker at that age but the shoes were very light and flexible. Doesn't sound as if your dd is particularly comfortable in them , was she happy in the shop when she tried them ?

shuteye · 26/11/2005 12:21

DS walking at 8 1/2 mths bought him soft leather shoo shoo's until more confident, then bought START-RITE TOTS shoes with a flexible sole so he could go outside when wet, if in car or pushchair for long he pulls them off but once walking in them he's fine. I know you said they were fitted properly but just double check they are wide enough and don't do them up too tight.

softmusk · 26/11/2005 18:18

has any one expereinced this with there kids

I think it'd be worth trying to get some softer soled shoes, Softmusk. I have some Ricosta ones that are marvelous, hardly more than pre-walkers but tough enough for outside.

But tbh, at that age, I just let them wear pre-walkers outside (they wear out quickly, but they're cheap to buy another pair).

WigWamBam · 26/11/2005 19:13

The fact that they were fitted doesn't necessarily mean they fit her properly - I've had badly fitted shoes from Clarks more than once. It could be hurting her to walk in them.

starlover · 26/11/2005 19:13

hi softmusk, i work at clarks and i think a lot of it is just getting them used to wearing them.
Where did you get them fitted? Have you been back to check the fit is ok?

Also, how many time have you tried them? It may just be a case of keep putting them on her until she is used to having them on. Try putting them on her while she is in her pushchair so that she doesn't have to do any walking, but she is used to having them on her feet

softmusk · 27/11/2005 13:34

things are getting better now still wont walk in them but doesnt cry if on feet

DS has just started to walk and was looking for advice on when to move out of pre-walkers? What is toe curling? Is that what they do while they are still finding their balance? And I wait till he stops?

My dd is 13 months and got her a pair of Clarks first shoes a month ago, lovely soft bendy soles unlike lots of other we were shown. She wouldn't walk in them for a bit just stood there staring at her feet. So we gave her her walker to push around and coaxed her by gently pulling it along. It still took her sometime after that to get used to them enough to walk independently. Now we have the problem that they've got velcro on them and she spends all her time un-doing them.

Jen, I would try to wait as long as possible before getting walkers. The only reason we got them is dd goes to the park with the childminder at least twice a week and she was trashing her Bobux soft shoes and getting damp feet. But walking outside is the only time she wears them, the rest of the time she's in her bobux's; £28 is a lot of money when they only wear them a couple of times a week for 6 weeks-ish before they need a new pair.

BTW we were told by an independent childrens shoe shop that wellies are a bad idea and it would take her another 6 months to be able to walk properly in them.
