i'm a single mother and my DS is 19months old and is generally a really lovely boy, but recently he's decided to scream at me all day, really high pitched screams....he'll do it for no reason at all....even when i am talking to him he'll just look at me and scream.....i've tried ignoring him, ive tried punishing him, i've tried the once asking, twice stern and third naughty chair.....but its only made it worse. sometimes when i get to his level and tell him no, he goes to slap my face...i have never done this to him.
i want to curl up and cry at the end of the day....
i know he is young, but i wish he could see how hard he is making things...its only me and him and he's making me not like him....
i just dont know what to do....

I think a lot of boys go through this, and I can understand how unpleasant it must be for you. Could it be anything medical? I hope someone with actual experience of this comes along soon...just wanted to bump the thread for you.

He has probably just realised he can make this noise and is facinated by it, most children go through this, it will pass.

The best thing to do is to ignore it, especially if yo are in the middle of playing a game and he screams, just get up and leave the room.

Hopw it passes soon.

I've just sent you a message, hopefully it'll be with you soon.

Agree with all that it is probably just cos he can!

With the slapping - he will have no idea that this actually hurts, my 19mo will sometimes try to give a good biff. She also has no idea how much her head can hurt me when she lunges for me! But she is expermienting heavily with screaming etc, and the dramatic drop to the floor in floods of tears if I say no to something.

Try to get out and about as much as you can, and let him play with other children that age... you'll probably see more tantrums from others that way too, which is always reassuring Good luck!
