my dd 2.7 is sooo clingy to me, she is currently having a tanturm downstairs because dh is putting her to bed, i've had to hide away in the bedroom. but all i can hear is her shouting for me.
she won't have anyone else when she wakes in night/morning. it's just always me.
does anyone else have this problem.
on a one-to-one with dh she's fine. but if the three of us are together it's me!

Not sure I can advise but I can sympathise.
DS was always a bit like this but it changed when I got pregnant with his sister. I couldn't give in and carry him and he was always being told he couldn't clamber on me so he did get closer to his Dad. Obviously with a newborn around too (especially with breastfeeding) he also had to learn there were times when he couldn't have my attention.

That's probably no help to you but I just wanted to say it probably won't last. Even if you're not planning any more children, I'm sure she'll grow out of it. I think it's a good idea to do what you are doing and keep out of the way when your dh is putting her to bed/bathing/whatever. It's so hard though isn't it. I used to have to force myself to stay locked away.

If I let ds3 have his own way, I would take him to bed every single night. he always asks for me and says no if dh offers to take him. dh insists on taking him and we use loads of distraction on the way like say goodnight to ds1, ds2, ds4, dd etc!!! Then when he has been in bed for about 10 minutes I go up and kiss him goodnight too.

lilybird · 20/11/2005 19:14

she's calmed down & dh isn't bothered by it at all.
just wears me down beyond belief. but just have to be strong.
she also really plays on me because she knows i give just to get an easy life. going to turn over a new leaf from tomorrow, mean mummy here i come!!
not planning on having any more kids, so we have to be really careful she doesn't turn into a spoit brat!

probably wont help but just wanted to say my dd1 was like that at that age, and she just grew out of it. cant think of anything that changed, thats why i think she just grew out of it

I would just say to her "mummy has to go shopping, I'll come back after you've had some dinner, played a bit etc, bye bye" and just go. I'm sure she'll be fine.

Ds1 was like this but I still left him with my mum and he always settled. My thinking was that he's with someone who loves him and who will keep him safe and even if he cried I was confident that my mum would handle it.

lilybird · 25/11/2005 16:34

i know that after a while she would've have been fine and it was my mum i would have just left but as said mil & fil are in their 70's and i don't think would of handled it very well!
probably more angry at myself really.
dh had a go at me this morning saying that i don't help myself with her being clingy. she just won't go to him at all.
feel so knackered just wanted some me time!

my DS was very clingy, in fact I was told by family that I was a bad mother because when he was a baby I didn't let anyone else look after him. I just put my foot down and put him in nursery at age 2 and a half. he still cries, every time I drop him off (he goes two mornings a week) and he's now 3, but i don't pander to it and just walk away. I found that the longer I stay, the more I try and reassure him that mummy will be back soon etc etc, the worse it is, the most painless thing to do is to walk away, whenever I go to pick him up from nursery he's absolutely fine and has had a ball
