ditching the dummy

I gave ds (now 6 months) a dummy because there is a close age gap between him and dd and I couldn't physically hold him etc whenever he cried. Now we both seem to be getting far to reliant on it! So for this and other reasons I'd really like to get rid of it but having spent one completly unsucesfull evenning pacing the floor etc till I gave in and gave it to him, was wondering if anyone had any top tips!

Go on popsycal, tell us how old you were!!!
I had a dummy 'till i was nearly four, and i still remember my mouth being sore, because i NEVER took it out.

i told my eldest boy (age 3) that only little babies needed dummies, and as i was pregnant with my 2nd child at the time i dont think he wanted to be seen as a baby but a big boy when the baby was born, so he threw it away and never asked for it again.
my aunts daughter was a nightmare trying to give up her dummie, in the end on a summers day my aunt put sugar on the dummie and put it on the patio and a few minutes later it was crawling with ants, hence my cousin didnt want any dummie after seeing that!

I told that to my ds as well tiredemma because I am expecting my second. He just said that when he finished with the dummy, he will give that same "old manky one" to his baby brother!!! But thank god he has not asked for it for about 2 days> We are on a whole week because he lost it last Friday but i do think he was really suffering withdrawal symptoms. He was stroppy irratable and a real brat (he is anyway being nearly 4) but it got increasingly worse for about 3 days. Thank god it has calmed down now Phew!!
