Teething and Calpol

My DD (21 weeks) is really struggling with teething at the moment and has 6 teeth trying to pop through. She is obviously in pain and is super grumpy!
She has had calpol for a few days but I worry about giving her this all the time. Do you feel it is ok for her to continue having Calpol whilst she needs it or has anyone found anything better. TIA x

cucumber is good and see your chemist for soothing gels and powders which are age appropraite, i was the same with my girl i felt so bad giving her calpol all the time just try a few things to see what works the best for ou both good luck :)

Bonjela Teething Gel is brilliant my little one likes it and it works. Also Ashton and Parsons teething powders seem to do the trick. I have only given our DD (20 weeks) calpol 3 times, after the first 2 sets of injections and once last week when the above didn't work and she was in a real state, the next morning the tooth had popped through.

I can't get Ashton and Parsons anywhere

Have heard it is great

I think it's fine to give her Calpol if she's in pain - it won't do her any harm, and you can use it along side teething gels and powders.

I found that Nurofen for children was more effective for teething pain though.

SeaChelles · 26/05/2011 12:10

i second browneyesblue - i have found nurofen works ten times better than calpol for everything.

monkoray · 26/05/2011 12:29

I agree with Browneyesblue and Seachelles that nurofen is better. But i'd caution against using nurofen repeatedly over a prolonged periods of time because its ibuprofen and ibuprofen when used constantly has been linked to stomach ulcers and damage to kidneys - but that is when its used A LOT.

Thanks everyone, just being to boots and got some Bonjela and Ashton and Parsons powders so hopefully these should do the trick. 1 tooth has finally popped through this morning and she seems slightly happier.

medised is paracetemol based but makes them drowsy too - good for night time - was recommended to me by my gp when mine were teething!

I always gave mine a small dose. Some will argue against giving babies pain killers. However I just thought if I had teeth coming through I would want pain relief!

The smallest amount usually takes the edge off though
