I am sick of my children's behaviour around food. DD1[11] is very very fussy. DD3[4] is also fussy but slightly less so but wants crap all the time and will refuse main meals. They are both extremely stubborn and have the will power to eat nothing for hours at a time if they are refused alternatives.
Yesterday in the latest stage of the battle I thought about stopping all snacks. That hasn't actually happened yet but after tonights dinner I think I will have to try it. I cooked spinach and ricotta tortellini and made sage butter to go over it with some parmesan for sprinkling. DD3 refused it point blank and went into meltdown. She has just stopped yelling now, about 20 mins later. DD1 ate around half of a small platefull and was allowed a pudding which was an ice lolly. She didn't want an ice lolly [she's eaten them before] and when I refused to list alternatives she stormed off crying too.
DD2 ate most of hers, got her lolly and then gave it to DD2 who then continued her meltdown when I took it from her.

Has anyone stopped all snacks? What happens after school/swimming etc. Or does anyone have healthy snack ideas that aren't fruit.

Oh and obviously I will be able to have my snacks because I finish all my meals?

i have 4 kids, dinner time is horrid, i now cook their dinner and if they dont eat it they get nothing else, as for snacks i dont let them have anything before dinner ( although they have been known to help them selves so i dont buy much and their dad goes to the shop or i hide sweets ) healthy snack a little yoguart, fresh banana milk shake made with milk and icecream ( half healthy ) prawns and crab sticks, if they are really hungry when they get home i cook dinner straight away and dh and me have ours later, its difficult, i just hate meal times and bed time!!!

If I was given spinach and ricotta tortellini and sage butter with stinky parmesan as a child I would have refused it and cried too.....
I would give them a choice of various healthy meals in advance for the week ahead (from a list you have made) and let each dd pick one, so at least 3 nights they have some say in it and the other nights you pick.

yes i agree, i do let my kids have some say in what they eat not every meal though, you wont please everyone all the time, i was told they wont starve they will soon learn, my ds and dd3 would have liked your dinner but the other two would have refused until they realised they were heading for bed hungry then my eldest would have tryed and my dd2 would have screamed and shouted and then headed for bed, when we were kids my mum dished up our dinner and we either ate it or went hungry and we had no say in anything we had, i am not a big pudding lover prob because i never got pudding as i was the one saying i am not eating that and going hungry lol

Oh I do let them have a say and we often eat to suit them but I can't please them all and someone usually has a strop. The only truly popular meals are of the chicken nugget and chips variety.
Today I did an online shop and most of the packaged snacks are off the menu. I have ordered yoghurt, carrots and plenty of fruit. Whether I am gibbering wreck by the end of the week remains to be seen. Oh but I did order wine Grin
