Do you know of any reasons for this?
Have they had any physical problems?
Are they interested in walking or not?
Are they attempting to walk or not?
Can they stand unsupported?
Do they attempt to walk?
Can they take any steps at all?

Information like this might help people to give you more helpful advice.

My DSs were 14, 18 and 21 months respectively before they walked. As long as they use their legs, to crawl, bounce when supported etc i would say there is absolutely nothing to worry about.

fatheroftwins · 19/05/2011 20:31

There has not been any stability in their lives up until now as they have been through pillor to post and i think thats why they are abit behind in things. My son walks a few steps when he wants but dont really have any drive to do so.
They dont have no physical problems.
Being the only person looking after them i do find it hard to get them to get their attention to do things like putting shapes in the shape sorter or getting them to feed for them selves.
I would be very grateful for any advice in progressing them or any stratergies or games to get theirattention span going

i wouldn't worry about it yet!
18 months is within a normal range for learning to walk, and if your son is taking a few steps then he's heading in the right direction

i honestly don't think a lack of stability up til now will have any effect on their physical development,

at 18 months they won't have much of an attention span, so try not to worry aboutt hat either, play with them of course, but don't expect them to be interested in things for a long length of time!
if you follow their lead you can't go far wrong in my opinion

RuthChan · 19/05/2011 20:39

I agree with thisisyesterday.
It doesn't sound like you need to worry quite yet.
Their walking may be later than some, but it is not a drastic delay. If your son is taking a few steps he's heading in the right direction and once he's up and about his sister will soon follow. Maybe having each other to play with gives them less incentive to move around!

I also agree that 18 month old babies never have much of an attention span. They are hard to tie down to one activity for very long and they never seem to want to do what we want them to do.
It can get frustrating, but don't worry, it's normal.
As they grow a bit more you'll see a change.

dt2 started at 10 mths & dtd1 started at 16 mths - both very different. Their friend at nursery started at 26 mths (he used to walk on his knees) then his younger sister did the same thing!!!

This will get there Smile

vivi12 · 19/05/2011 20:56

They'll walk when they're ready. There's nothing you need to do, honestly.

fatheroftwins · 19/05/2011 21:11

My daughter wasn't prem and still didn't walk at all till she was 17 months, and not confidently for another couple of months after that. My friend's little girl was nearly 2 - with her, she was afraid of falling over, bless her.

Do you get any support from health visitors or anything like that? They can sometimes be helpful for questions on development. Sometimes they are crap overworked though.

monkoray · 19/05/2011 22:03

are your twins crawlers or bum shufflers. I have met two bum shufflers recently and neither were walking til after 18 months. My friends theory is that because they are upright they don't realise they aren't already walking.

RainySmallHands · 19/05/2011 22:19

I'd echo what everyone else has said. Try not to worry, they'll get there eventually.

DD was a singleton and only slightly early, and she didn't walk until 20 months! She never really seemed all that interested and was happy sitting on her bum. She did cruise for a looong time, and bum-shuffled for a month or so. Only crawled after she started to walk! I wish I could've taken my own advice and not worried so much Smile
