Support thread for parents of Highly Sensitive Children

Hi, I'm looking into this whole HSC concept and am wondering whether any other parents here would be interested in starting an ongoing support thread? I was thinking it could be a good forum for discussing ideas, sharing tips, etc. For completely selfish reasons, actually, as I need advice! Grin

Hi, I am looking at this at the moment too. I am a 'highly sensitive person' (I read about it a few years ago and recognised ALL the traits...). I am currently struggling with my 4yo DS's behaviour and trying to work out where it comes from so I know how to handle it...

I've just been reading up on highly sensitive children and am starting to wonder if this might be at the root of his problems too, although I didn't recognise it until recently. Rather than being quiet and reserved (as I am), when DS gets over-stimulated it manifests itself in wild and defiant behaviour. I haven't read the HSC book yet so I'm not sure if this is covered or not... I have just done the test here and he scores quite highly...

Anyway I would love to discuss this further and build a support thread.

Brilliant! I was worrying that I would have no replies. I also have a 4 yo DS who is HSC, and have just started reading the book. Can't post much now as DC2 is napping and I have a million jobs to do before she wakes. Will be back later.

Another one here! I read the HSP book several years ago, and it's definitely me. And lo and behold, when DS1 came along (he's 5 next week), it's him too.
But not DS2 (3), oh no. Definitely not.
My current issue is that DS1 has, in the last month, become INCREDIBLY clingy. He hasn't been like this since he was 2. We have just had a month of school holidays, then extended by a week due to unrest here in Botswana, and I am just about ready to explode.... Crossing everything that the return of his normal routine tomorrow will help Hmm

Hi Zam! Am just about to make lunch so can't post much, but wanted to say hi and sympathise with the clingy stuff...tis such a challenge sometimes!

Chat again soon.
