Weird arm raising - 3 yr old

DS (3) has started to do a strange 'haunted' movement with both arms in anticipation of 'exciting' things.
Hands and arms slowly raise, sometimes just to eye level, other times all the way over his head.
Usually when watching TV or listening to stories.

If we ask him what he's doing he just looks at his hands and seems a bit surprised Grin

Haven't seen this in other children so wondered what it is, I suspect it's an involuntary nervous response which he hasn't learnt to inhibit yet.
Would be interested to know if other children who do it and why.

Just posting because I saw the title and it reminded me of my brother when he was a toddler. When he'd get excited by something he'd do this thing where he'd raise both arms to eye level and wave them, whilst pulling some kind of shrieky-looking face. If you asked what he was doing, he'd look confused and just sit down again. This went on for a year or so until he grew out of it. My parents put it down to a nervous reaction, and he's now 22 years old and as far as I know hasn't done it since. ;)

Yes, a friend's dd used to flap her hands really fast when she was excited, just like she was trying to take off Grin She grew out of it.

My dd's 7 year old friend still does this - she has done ever since i can remember whenever she is anxious or excited. She doesn't have any problems or anything though, it's just a little quirk i think!
