Jerky 12 week old

DS is 12 weeks old and his movements are still really jerky, random and robotic. He is also very rigid at times, with an arched back and stiff rigid legs, although he seems quite strong and has good head control. The GP has referred him to the orthopedic Dept as when she checked his hips at 8 weeks she said she heard them click and they were quite inflexible. We are due to see HV next week so I will speak to her then but I just wondered if others have similiar age babies who are still v jerky in the way their limbs move? TIA

Hi- didn't want your post to go unanswered. 12 weeks is still v young and your DS is probably getting to grips with being a separate person to you! I think it's good that your gp picked it up early and has referred you.

My DS is 25 weeks and when he is concentrating v hard on picking up a toy he makes his arms go rigid to see if that helps him reach what he wants.

Am sure someone will be along soon with more experience of this.

DS is 24 weeks and can still, on occasion, be quite jerky though he does have good control for the most part. Certainly at 12 weeks he was still very jerky and, as my DH described, 'baby like'!! I don't think they really start gaining more control of their limbs until around 16 weeks. You'll just notice that gradually it gets better and better and more co-ordinated from here on in.

Thankyou for you both for your replies, thats good to know Matana, DD was quite jerky too but I couldn't remember when it stopped. His appointment for the physio has come through and we are seeing someone next week so hopefully that will put my mind at rest.
