Screeching 4 month old - please tell me this is just a phase!

My 21 week old DD has discovered how to screech this week. It seems to be when she is happy, she's not screaming in frustration or anything. I thought, oh right, here's a new thing, well I bet all the other babies are doing it - had an NCT meet up yesterday, and...no. It's just her and it's so loud! I try not to react to it but she was lying next to my friend's big strapping baby boy, who is a week older than her, turned her head to look at him, grinned, opened her mouth and screamed right in his face - cue crumpled face and horrified tears and howling from friend's son. Friend and I were in fits of giggles.
But it's not so funny at 5am when she wakes up and screeches and we shoot out of bed like we're on springs.
Please tell me I don't have a permanent screamer on my hands. I don't want to be the one that everyone dreads at toddler group. It's just a phase, right?

Grin

my twins did this in succession. It was like they'd Found Their Voices and they were both delighted. We used to call one of them "the peacock"

they stopped after a few months weeks

I do find, though, that the worst child screeching is from boys around the 12-13 yo mark. It is incessant

DS found his voice at 4 months and hasn't shut up since! I don't mind the happy screeching, which is actually quite cute, but it's when he's just discovered how to voice displeasure and he intends to practice it to death (usually in the middle of the night) that gets me. Over the past 8 weeks he's growled, screeched, grunted, screamed, mewed - you name it, he's done it. Bascially they find a sound and practice... and practice.... and practice!

Good luck! Grin

Remember- comparing your child to the others at NCT meet-ups- that way lies madness. Madness I tell you, madness.

You won't be the one that everyone dreads at toddler group, everyone will be far too busy trying to restrain their own feral offspring, trust me.

My DD is 18 weeks old and discovered screeching last week, it has died down a bit but the babbling is on the up again today. I think mine is like matana's as long as she's making noise she's happy. Today she really has done my head in been very vocal!

Same here my 18 week old has been shouting and screeching for a week or so now, Its very loud at times and he laughs inbetween at the noises he is making. Very cute

My 18wk old DD woke us up at 545am this morning screeching with excitement. We think its cute atm.

MY DS3 HAS FOUND HIS VOICE AND SOUNDS LIKE THIS CONSTANTLY, EVEN WHEN HES JABBERING AWAY TO HIMSELF. Grin

I thought it was because our house is loud (three boys under 6)

we chat in very quiet voices when we want ours to listen, doesn't work with the bambino as yet though Grin

Springheeledjack - oh no, my stepson is 11, it's going to be like a Hammer horror in here soon, isn't it?

'The Peacock', love it, I'm so stealing that.

I know it's folly to compare NCT class babies, but it's just...so...tempting .

It is cute. She's so pleased with herself. But I think I liked it more when she discovered cooing...
