My dd (6) is very interested as to how babies are made etc etc due to her grandmas dog having pups! I want to be honest, and obviously age appropriate and I think having a book would help me feel more confident!

Any recommendations?

Mummy laid an egg by Babette Cole, but try and read it yourself first as it doesn't appeal to everyone! I think it's great and very funny from a child's point of view, but I know people who don't like her very irreverent ( sp?) style.

Oh will look at that! As a family we have quite a strange, irreverent sense of humour so it might be just right.

Personally I'm not a fan of Mummy Laid an Egg - not offended by the irreverence, just put off by the fact that she refers to daddy's 'stick' and 'pods' and mummy's 'hole'. My own view is that if you feel your child is old enough to know how babies are made they are old enough to know the right words for things.

I preferred a book called Where Did i Come From by Peter Mayle. It's specifically for young children (under 10s I would say) but clearly names and shows the relevavent body parts. I gave it to my DD when she was 9. I sat down and had a little chat with her, explained the basics then told her the book was hers to read and keep but she could come and talk to me any time she had any questions. (The first thing she asked was 'do you have to do that EVERY time you want a baby???, LOL)

I agree with you over the words and we had where did I come from which is also great! Wasn't aware it was still available as I am 42! I just like the way the kids set the adults straight in 'mummy'. I would use it as a starting point for discussion tbh, not as a 'bible'
