3 month old refusing dummy!

My 3 months old absolutely refused to use the dummy and would split it out as soon as it's put to the mouth. It would generally have been ok have he not been using my breast as dummy instead (he's breastfeeding) meaning I have to spend whole day lying on sofa with my breast in his mouth.

Lately he has started to such on his fists as well all the time and I think it will be more hygenic if he sucks on dummy instead as I can sterilise it.

Any advice?

I have also tried different made and sizes of different dummies as well without any success.

Hi there :)
Your child not having a dummy is fantastic! Dummies, although great for soothing, can really destroy mouths and teeth. Think of all the things you already have to take away from your child at some point (such as the breast!), this is one less thing.

Also, the sucking is different on a dummy to on a breat so he might struggle with that. A lot of kids like labels to suck on, why not try something like that? There's actually a brand called 'Label Label' that do pieces of cloth with loads of labels on for kids to suck on. My son (also breastfed... until he was 2....) absolutely loved it.

Ds always refused a dummy, now at a year I can see that as a good thing but at 3 months I was desperate too,
He might just have a growth spurt which would explain the extra feeding/ suckling. And if he wants to suck his hand let him! Great for hand eye co-ordination and comfort, a 3 month olds hands don't get too filthy any way Wink

I breastfed and at the time tried to get her to take a dummy but to my annoyance she wouldn't (cue hours of sitting on sofa with baby attached to boob..) HOWEVER! now at almost two I am sooooooo pleased she doesn't have one! You will be thankful one day soon, that first bit is tough but it really won't last forever. A friends girl used to wake in the night every time her dummy fell out and they'd have to go and put it back in....nightmare.
