my grandson is 4 months and loves to stand,he pushes himself up onto his feet and locks his legs and stands there, feet flat for a good 3 mins or so,and he is smiling away, thinks he is clever,he is so firm you can hold him under one arm and he just takes his weight

I was just wondering if there was any truth in the old wives tale, that standing a young baby can give them bandy legs.he does it himself,he pushes himself up and goes mad if you make me sit back down.

No.

Old wives tale. Ds did this from about 8 weeks and he is fine!

No, none whatever. In fact it's a developmental stage and an important one.

Hope not, my dd has been doing it since 2 months! She's 5 months now and no sign of bandyness.

If he is doing it on its own no problem that means he has the proper muscle strength.
It is the pushy parents who stand and walk tiny floppy babies who might cause problems.

My DD is 6 months and has done this from a very early age. Myself and friends joke that she just doesn't bend in the middle.

My Gran warned it would make her bandy legged but my eldest daughter is now a teen and did it too, and is fine.

If we hold DD's hands she will actually walk forwards now. As long as it's not forced I think it's fine x
