pulling to standing

hello - my DD was late crawling (11.5mths) and rolling frequently (9.5mths). She now crawls very well in the traditional on all fours sense. She is now 12 months and is only very recently in the last week starting to pull to standing - she has been trying for about 3 weeks though.

My question is though - she always uses the same leg to push herself up. The other one follows so that she is standing on the two but more often than not the other leg seems to give way after 30 seconds and she topples down. As i say she has only done this about 10 times in total but at this stage she seems to have more balance on one leg than the other. Is this usual? She crawls using both legs and arms evenly and kicks both legs evenly, she also walks on her knees (with her walker) if you know what i mean.

many thanks.

Hi. Your daughter sounds like she is late but normal, lots of children favour one side over the other initially and it usually evens up with a bit of time....does she stand on your lap and pull to stand with you/bounce up and down putting weight on both legs ?? (give it a go now if you are not sure) If the same leg collapses when you do this or it appears to cause her pain it is possible that the femoral epiphesis has slipped or she has a shallow and therefore dislocating hip joint. Your doctor can do a simple hip test to check this out...and it can be sorted out. The only other thing as she was late to move would be low tone disorders which are rare and would probably have been spotted with reduced facial expressions and late sitting/grasping etc. before now. Hope this helps....will keep an eye open for updates!
