Night nappy dilemma

DS2 (age 4.5)still wears a nappy at night, although he has been day trained for over 2 years. It is always wet in the morning, and I have been waiting for the magic moment when we start to get some dry nappies. I'm not at all fussed about it, I know it will happen when his body is ready (DS1 was dry night and day from age 2, DD1 had a night nappy until age 5). But, DS2 has recently become very conscious about the night nappy and keeps asking when he can try without it. What should I do? Many thanks

I would try without and have a potty next to the bed and loose pjs easy to pull up and down. Neither of my DDs ever had a dry nappy in the morning but were totally fine when we switched to no night nappy. DD2 has just turned 4 and does a wee in the potty every night. As my room is under hers I sometimes hear the floor boards creaking in the night as she gets out of bed in the early hours but otherwise she doesn't disturb anyone and it doesn't seem to disturb her sleep to do a quick wee when she needs it then straight back to sleep. In our last house her bedroom was next to the bathroom so she used to get up and use the loo if necessary, but now it's not so convenient so having the potty in her room makes life easier for her even though at 4 she is well past the potty stage in general. Some children (e.g. my 2 yr old DS who is in the early stages of potty training but already has a dry nappy every morning) can easily get through a whole night without doing a wee, others like my DD2 simply can't go that long but once you take the nappy away can easily get themselves to a loo / potty as necessary.

I would try for 3 or 4 nights and if the bed is constantly wet then give up and give it another shot in a couple of months.

dd1 at 3.11 had never had a dry night nappy but wanted to try. we agreed 3 nights of no nappy, and if the bed was dry once we'd carry on for another 3 nights. she was wet every night, but the little experiment seemed to have satisfied her need to try, and she was fine about going back into a night nappy.

she has just today had her first dry night nappy at 4.1 and was thrilled.
