I have 4 children but the first three were a little slow in terms of sitting, standing etc. My third child for example didnt walk until 19 months, she didnt stand until 13 months at all at 8 months she couldnt even sit (the older two were reffered for various development checks but nothing ever found and the three of them are totally caught up now).

Anyway My current 8 month old despite being parented exactly the same as the other three can pull herself up climb over things and stand, she is now trying to take steps. At first I took hundreds of photos and took her round to visit everyone because I felt it showed that I wasnt a shit parent after all. Now I am starting to get worried because she is so tiny still but she is experiencing all the little knocks and bumps that her older brother and sisters had when they were much sturdier looking!.

today for example she was happily standing up one minute and the next she has collapsed onto the floor in a heap hitting her little head on the floor and she has a little bruise on her forehead! :(

How bad is it for little ones like this to bump their heads? she seems so much more delicate than a 19/20 month old i am starting to worry she is really going to hurt herself.

(I am aware I sound a little crazy but my joy at her moving around is turning to horror very quickly).

I think she should be alright. For one, her skull will still be a bit softer than older kids' so can take the shock iyswim.

Fwiw, DD, while she didn't walk til she was 12mo, bumped her head many times before (falling out of bed, pulling up to stand and falling back down etc) and she's fine.

Just relax and enjoy Smile

I hope it's not bad because my DD is exactly the same. I figure as long as it doesn't seem to be bothering her the odd bump on the head isn't going to do any harm. Poor little mite had 3 bruises on her forehead last week from tumbles :(

My DS2 was exactly the same and bumps and bruises are par the course when learning to get balance and walk. It does still make my heart jump when it happens but as he has got older his balance is better and the bruises are less xxx :)

My DS is the same - he's 8 months and pulled himself up in a wobbly way last month and now cruises round the furniture, and falls over SO much, with these huge BANGs on our wooden floor. It's awful! He's getting used to it though as it's now a quick cry and back to pulling himself up on completely unsuitable things like the clothes horse or the open dishwasher.

Please let him get some balance soon!

DD1 was standing at 8 months too and walked by 11 months, not much bruises she was quite cautious.
DD2 was standing at 6 months, cruising at 7 and walking a few days after her 9 months Bday, lots of bruises, but she is fine (but crazy and only 15 months Grin)
They only walk if they are physically able to, don't rush anything, make the place as safe as you can, and let her be. It is part of learning.

DD did virtually the same the only difference was the marble floor. She looked battered for a lot of the time, but it hasn't hindered her in any way.

Sorry, I think it's very amusing you've got 4 DC and never had to deal with this before. It's very ordinary for some of us (my latest walking of 4 DC was still before 11months). They can tolerate quite a few bruises, just do your best to prevent the bumps. There will be plenty.

I bet yours talked early, OP. Mine all very late talkers.

Walking late does not equal shot parenting Hmm

*shit I mean, my iPad won't let me swear

DS was the same - walking dead on 10mths. NO sense of perception and spent first 4 weeks or so like a pinball, bouncing from wall, to sofa, to chair! Chipped a tooth (he only had 5) and was bruised all over, including his ear Shock.
He is now 5, incredibly active (why walk when you can run, why run when you can jump sort of child :)) but VERY well coordinated. Still covered in bruises but that is because he goes for everything 100%.
Probably not helpful but he can still cause me heart-stopping moments on a regular basis. Good luck :)
