The signs of puberty approaching in girls

Is there an order in which things tend to happen?

Dd is only 8.5, still very childish and quite uninterested in her future development. Of course, I've chatted with her about it, but precisely because of her strong disinterest I'm just a little concerned that she might get taken by surprise when things do start to happen.

Is there anything in particular that I need to look out for that might warn of periods being about to start - just in case I haven't been able to talk with her about them by then?

With DD, it was an increase in vaginal discharge for about 6 months prior.
Also breast buds and body hair, and smelly pits.

but from age 9/10, the moods are spectaclar.

DD was a late bloomer at 13, she was the last of her friends to start, but she was very petite. girls have to reach around 50kg weight I believe.
