Should I be worried - my 8 year old boy has started to secretly take his sisters swimming costumes and want to wear them - how should I talk to him about it or ignore

Is the sister older? When I was growing up my younger brother has always wanted everything I had. Barbie dolls, pink stuff. We are less than 2 years apart. I don't know if he has ever wanted to wear my clothes. He grew out of it and by teenage he only did boy things. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks - she is 2 years younger - and otherwise he does very boys things - the difficulty is knowing how and if to have a conversation with him - he is quite a inquisitive boy so I supposehe is exploring things

I am bumping this in the hope of a cheeky hijack/any more advice or experiences - I have been searching through the archives looking for a thread like this.

Today my 8 yr old DS sneaked into my room and borrowed a vest top, a dress and tights to try on. It's not the dressing up that bothers me but the secrecy - he clearly feels that this is something 'wrong' to be doing and I don't know how best to respond to it. When I found him all dressed up, he was embarrassed and flustered and took everything off in a great hurry even though I didn't tell him off or react in any way. All I did say was that I didn't want him to go through my drawers and borrow my things without asking in future. He has never gone into our bedroom drawers or cupboards without permission before.

Any experience of this or advice on how to handle it sensitively would be really welcome. On the other threads I have read, it has been with younger boys; I guess I am a little thrown that DS is experimenting with girls' clothing at this stage rather than at the pre-school stage which seems more usual.
