Stopping night time bottles or nappy, which first?

My DS1 (4) still has a bottle at night time, and is still in night time nappies. I think if he didn't drink so much last thing at night he might be able to go without nappies, but would it be too much to stop both at once? DS2 (2.5) went off bottles ages ago, and just has water in a spouty cup, but DS1 loves his milk bottle! I'm not sure how to approach this with him, advice please!

I would get rid of the bottle first. Just tell him that he is a big boy now and doesn't need one anymore. If he needs a drink he can have one before he goes to bed from a proper cup. Then throw all the bottles in the bin.
Establish a new bedtime routine say, bath, drink, toilet, bed with a story.
When he has had a week of dry nappies then you can try him without a night time nappy.

My dd1 still loved her milk aged 4 - we changed the bottle for a sports type one and put a lot less in it. We forgot it once when we went away for the weekend and she didn't ask for it when we got back. It didn't make any difference though regarding nappies at night. She is now 6 and is still in pull-ups. I think she sleeps so heavily she doesn't realise she needs the loo. I don't want to start lifting her and disrupting her sleep, as to me it seems counterproductive to encourage her to wee in the night. She has the odd dry night, but mostly they are wet. I'm just hoping she won't still be in pull-ups when she's 18!

I would get rid of the bottles straightaway. Even if he was dry at night, having a bottle of milk at that age can't be good for his teeth surely.

Once you've got rid of the bottle, try giving him extra fluids in the morning and afternoon and then limiting how much he drinks after teatime. Then work on the nappies.

You could always swap the nice comfy disposable for a terry nappy, bet he will want to be out of those within the week.
