Playing in cot when meant to be sleeping

My 9.5 month old DS has recently started crawling and pulling up on things. Since then, when I put him in his cot for a nap or for bed, he just starts crawling around his cot, or sits up and pulls himself up on the bars. He doesn't have any toys in his cot, as he's always been really good at just falling asleep within minutes of being placed in his cot. He does have a mobile, which I put on every time he goes in his cot so that he knows it's time to sleep.

What can I do to encourage my DS to sleep and not crawl around his cot?

Maybe he is needing less sleep now. If he is not crying does it matter?

Hi my son won't go to sleep in cot at all from awake (he's 10 months) so you are lucky, how long are his daytime naps? Does he have a grobag? If so you could just leave him to play and fall asleep in his own time without worrying about covers etc. I suppose its a novelty when they start moving around they can see things from new angles bless them, I would give him a couple of teddies or something to occupy him though :-)

My 8.5 month old has toys and cot books to play with - no harm in them playing in their cots is there? He either plays for a while then falls asleep, or if he doesn't fall asleep after say 30 minutes I take him out and try again later.

He might need less sleep than he used to. If he's having some fun by himself and not upset I think that's fine, he'll probably go off to sleep when he's ready. My DS has loads of toys in his cot and I often leave him sitting up and playing and he goes to sleep after 20 minutes or so.

My daughter just did this for 40 minutes after I put her down. She only has her little toy she sleeps with in there.

Unless she starts crying, I just ignore her!
