16 week old keeps rubbing her ears

dd2 is definitely teeting. Constant dribbling, everything goes into her mouth and bright red cheeks.

For the last couple of evenings she has also started frantic ear rubbing. She cries and cries and rubs them until they're red. Does anybody know if this is connected to the teething? Or, do I need to get her to the doctor (slack 2nd time mum - dd1 would have been at the doctors if she even as much as touched her ears!)

i can't give you any advice belo, poor little thing, hope she's better soon. but lol at slack 2nd time mum - it's my catchphrase .

Ds usually rubs his ears when he's tired so perhaps it's a combination of teething and tiredness?

bakedplotato · 03/11/2005 20:37

ime earrubbing/pulling is totally connected to teething

aloha · 03/11/2005 20:37

I'd take her. Nothing to lose and she might have an ear infection.

WigWamBam · 03/11/2005 20:38

Don't automatically assume that it's connected to teething, I'd get it checked out by the GP in case she has an ear infection as it sounds like she's in a lot of pain from it.

Poor thing, I hope she feels better soon.

would get gp to check over anyway - ds1 never had any pain with ear infections, just the ear rubbing.

also agree with the 2nd time mum thing - my poor ds2 just has to fit in with everyone else!

starshaker · 03/11/2005 20:40

my dd did this and still does its connected with teething. although dont asume this is what it is check her ears. she could just have wax which can hurt or maybe a wee infection. it prob is teething though

Belo · 03/11/2005 20:42

Yes, you're right. I should definitely get her checked out. I'm feeling very ashamed with myself now for not having taken her today. Bad mum. No wine for me tonight as punishment.

I agree with everyone (that makes a change!!)

I kept taking DS to the doctors on the basis "he must have an ear infection!" (he was always rubbing/pulling it)

On his part, its definitely a tired/teething/tired thang. More tired than teething most of the time, but I know when he's teething at the same time IYSWIM.

Its worth going to the doctors to put your mind at rest, but PLEASE!!!! HAVE A GLASS OF WINE!!! you deserve one after all the frantic rubbing and crying!
