Wooden floors, dogs and crawling

My DD will be 5 months this weekend, and has started rolling around, back and forth, and can wriggle in circles if I put her on the carpets upstairs.

As we have 2 hairy dogs, and wooden floors so we bought a playpen (Keeps her and doggies safe!) but so far she refuses to roll or move in it just gets frustrated, also what happens when she needs more freedom to explore?

What do other parents do in this situation?

we put ds on a yoga mat, which gave him some grip, cushioning and warmth. Not sure it made much difference to his crawling but i felt better! Our dog was happy to keep clear but can you just put yours in a different room for a bit...maybe not a long term solution sorry!

You can get cheap yoga mats from tesco! Smile

Actually thats brilliant! I've got camping mats which would do the same trick! The dogs will stay well clear, but the bloody hairs are another story...

My friends ds learned to commando crawl and we are sure its because of the wooden floors. Didn't slow him down, just a different method and for him meant he didn't slip and hurt himself.

Dog hairs are just a fact of life Blush you just have to sweep lots (or shave the dog Shock ). At least you can shake a mat.

Some babies do just commando crawl but i'm not sure it's owt to do with the floor.

Furminator! Brilliant for getting all the dead hair off dogs, especially at this time of year. They're on offer on Amazon at the moment as well!

we have blue slate floors and a huge dog!
both my DC's used those foam mats until they could sit unaided then we just let them get on with it.
they soon learn to deal with the hard / slippy floor and automatically learn how to fall so they dont hit their heads.
our dog was also very good and kept his distance but i agree the dog hairs are a nightmare. i resorted to daily vaccuming and keeing a change of clothes handy for if we went anywhere.

i was complelety pananiod about the situation for my PFB but by the time my DD came along i barely noticed.
