My seven month old is now regularly pooing in the bath, we make sure she doesn't go straight from tea to bath, any advice?

Swim nappy? & hope the habit wears off? Or maybe plonk her in the sink first, until it happens, then enjoy your bath. I'm assuming she goes in the big bath with you, but maybe not! We do this, she loves it, but we keep wondering when she will first poo and whether it is on my turn or DHs!

DS started doing this when we first moved him into the big bath at about 6mths. I wondered if it was because there was more water and it was a little warmer so he relaxed more.

We tried stopping fruit after tea/bringing tea forward. we also tried dipping him in then out. TBH, nothing really worked. He just stopped doing it at about 7.5/8mths. DH thinks it stopped because he started eating more solids and regulating his system more. Also stopped b/f at this point too so that may have helped.

Sorry, this sounds like an unhelpful ramble. The point I'm trying to make (badly) is that he grew out of it.

my dd did this for a little bit... either bath in her in the morning.. (if its convinient) or bath her a little later at night at leave her nappy off for five minutes before she has a bath. does she show any signs that she is having a pooh. My dd used to go bright red before she did it. I used to just pick her up and put her on the toilet. I think the initial shock of being picked up out of the bath on to the cold toilet stopped it.

Don't worry - it will soon pass (pardon the pun!). My ds used to poo everytime he got in the bath - its something to do with the warm water hitting the bowels I think.

He only did for about 3 months and then stopped. Don't worry about it - you will look back and laugh in a year or so!!

Even now, at 4.5, if dd needs a poo and can't manage to pass it, putting her in a warm bath does the trick almost every time. With her it's definitely warm water hitting the bowels and relaxing the bits that need to relax.

My 13-month-old has just picked up this habit over the last few months. But as he's bathed in a baby bath on the floor, he often gets out, and poos on the floor. Which is gross too, but not as bad!

rooibosh · 03/11/2005 18:52

Ah well, guess i just won't worry about it, helps a lot to know other babies do the same. Thank you!

ds did this too but it didn't last long. I wasn't concerned. There are worse things
