Say 'ca' and 'gog' and point at it, when they see a cat or dog?

And if this was corroborated by 6 other adults, unrelated to said baby, who had seen/heard it over the last fortnight?

Is it possible for an 8mo to have meaningful words?

If it is just mimicking sounds and pointing I'd say it's perfectly likely. Not hugely common, but not impossible either. My eldest child spoke extremely early and was putting together two or three word sentences by about 12-13 months so I would believe it.

I reportedly could speak clearly at 7 months and manage two word sentences by 9 months e.g. dropped it.
I am not massively bright as an adult but i am a BIG talker Grin

Grin

love these thread Wink

DS could sign butterfly (and many others) and say 'nom nom nom' when he was eating. That was it. He didn't talk at all until about 22 months. Chattery bugger never shuts up these days Grin

I remember having one of those 'baby's milestones' books where you wrote down everything they did (yawn) and the 'My first words' page was so full up by the time he was a year old I actaully sellotaped another page into it! (sad PFB syndrome) Blush

Also we had one of those giant floor mats with the foamy letters and we used to play a game where I'd call out the letter and he's jump onto it. He knew them all inside out by the time he was 2.5

And he used to get his Noddy or Pingu books and 'read' them word perfectly by turning each page and parrotting the text from memory by looking at the picture.

I thought he was total and utter genius. He wasn't. Party tricks aside, once he got to school he was a relectant reader and totally average.

DD could say 'bir' (bird) and 'dog' at 8 months, full sentences by 15 months. At 2 year check her speech came out as appropriate for 3.10 year old. So I would believe it. However, before dd I had ds who didn't say a recognisable word until he was 23 months so I probably would have been more sceptical then.
