I really could do with some advice.......My DS is just over 9 weeks old and love sleeping on his tummy, the only way i can get him in to sleep is on his tummy, so i stay awake untill he is a deep sleep and turn him over.So when he is having his 3am feed its a very long night!!! Sad He can turn his head from side to side very well and also lift his head well. Has anyone else expirienced this. I am to scared to let him sleep fully on his tummy as i no it is not recommended Confused

Get an Angelcare monitor. The pad goes under the matress, detecting if he doesn't move/breathe for 60 seconds. Bit PFB syndrome but I found mine really reassuring.

DD used to have terrible wind and loved sleeping on her tummy. I used to do the same as you and let her fall asleep that way and then flip her when she was asleep.

I stopped worrying too much about it when it was clear she could turn her head from side to side whenever she wanted. Not being able to do that is the danger with tummy sleeping as babies who cant turn their heads can get wedged into bedclothes etc and suffucate.

If you little one has sufficent neck control then i wouldnt worry to much. If you are still worried then the angelcare moniter might be helpful.

Thanks, his neck movment is very good. He had very bad colic at 2 weeks old it seems quite common that lo who had bad wind sleep better on there front from reaserch that i have done. We have got a very good moniter but not one with a mat. Will have to talk very nicely to DP to see if he will treat us to another one!

in other countries they tell you to put baby on their tummy to sleep so imagine you are living in one of those Grin

RitaMorgan · 12/04/2011 17:23

Personally I wouldn't risk it - I'm not sure those breathing monitors have been shown to reduce SIDS either.

mrsRhettButler hopefully greece is one of those countries! could quite happily pretend to live there!

shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_npmv=3&_trksid=m570&_nkw=baby+movement+monitor

You can always flog the other monitor on there as well.

We tested the monitor pretty thoroughly before use, being first time parents and having nowt else to do! Consistently went off through lack of movement. DS has also scared us witless by crawling into the corner of his cot. But soon you will have no choice as to how he sleeps. Once they can roll, all bets are off!
