Sleeping sidways in cot along front or back board and angelcare monitor going off. Solutions?

Hi,

My wee wriggly boy (10 months) has taken to sleeping sideways at the extreme ends of the cot. The Angelcare pad is in the middle of the cot, but can't seem to pick him up when is almost sleeping in the gap between the mattress and the cot side. Sensistvity is set at highest.

I sam the Safababy sleeper which is really meant for young babies when first moved into cot to reduce the size of the cot. This could work as I could move the pad up under a smaller space. However, he loves wriggling about and usually ends up with his head at the opposite end of the cot. He is also a big boy and reviews say it is quite flimsy and can move with a small kick. I think he would have it out in no time.

I think I am really looking for a thick cushioned cot bumper type thing that is maybe 2 or 3 inches high and wide to put at either end of the cot. This would be comfy and would probably stop him lying along the cot board.

Anyone heard of a product like this or have any other ideas? I'm not ready to turn off the monitor yet as I know of two couples, not too far removed from me, who have lost older babies to SIDS (14 and 16 months). Whilst this is very unusual, I like the piece of mind with the monitor, esp as he is sleeping 12 hours straight (lucky lucky mummy!)

ah, you dealt with the obvious solution in the last paragraph - I was going to ask why you still felt the need for it at this age. Was it really straightforward SIDS at that age? - no underlying conditions is what I mean? Are you at all handy with a needle - what you describe wouldn't be too hard to make - just make sure you buy appropriate fabric and padding - maybe cut down a cot bed duvet to the right dimensions and sew it into a cotton cover?

Adding anything "soft and padded" is a risk in itself.
