Tiptoeing toddler common?

hi all my dd is 20 months and tiptoes not all the time but everyday on and off. I've noticed she does it when she's excited or tired or upset and she does it with a funny waddle sometimes right up on her toes. She did it wen she first started cruising then stopped when she first learnt to walk and now it back again. Anyone else have this? She does have some other behavioural/social/speech issues but just wondering how linked this is or not to worry

Chundle, tiptoeing on it's own is not necessarily a worry, but added to some of your other concerns I would be researching and then going to the GP for a referal to a developmental paediatrician.

It is entirely possible that there is nothing to be concerned about at all, but if there is, her best chances are through early intervention.

I'm not telling you here you have anything to worry about, but you will regret not having acted if in the future there is found to be a problem.

You might want to start with the MCHAT questionnaire, the NAS website and Dyspraxia.

Hi starlight thanks for replying we do go to a child development centre every week but as dd is so young they are sort of taking a wait and see approach until she hits 2 and I'm just told that her issues are all 'sensory'. We have a paediatrician appointment soon so I will bring it up with him then as he's very good.

Chundle, in the states the AVERAGE age for diagnosis for things such as ASD is 14-18 months.

There is no reason for a wait and see approach unless you are getting shed loads of early intervention which I doubt.

I know the states seem to be worlds ahead of us with everything! My friends boy only just been dx with asd and ADHD and hes 12! UK seem to be so slow with everything. I will ring her paed I think thanks for advice
