Dd 9.5 months refusing bedtime bottle

She has never been a big drinker and has only been having a morning and bedtime bottle for a few months now, but the last couple of nights she had point blank refused her bedtime bottle and still slept through. Do I need to worry or should I just accept that if she doesn't want it she doesn't want it? Does she still need it at this age? I was under the impression that babies still needed bedtime milk for ages yet?!

My ds was exactly the same. HV said it was fine as long as they are still getting enough calcium from cheese, yoghurt, etc. She did suggest putting chocolate milkshake into the milk if we felt he needed more milk, and that worked for a while but now he hardly drinks any milk at all.

They need 500-600ml a day (about a pint I think) but that can include dairy and milk in food.

monkoray · 02/04/2011 20:47

Yep rita is right and I thought my ds would never get that from food alone but when you add up all the stuff they eat its surprising how much it adds up to

OK, thanks, well she has 150ml in the morning, probably about 100ml of cows milk and that's it :(

Things she eats with calcium are a yoghurt every day and usually some cheese, maybe something with crème friache in it, that isn't enough is it?

When she was drinking her bedtime milk it was 240ml now she has just stopped

Maybe try the bedtime milk as a dreamfeed in her sleep?

sunndydays · 02/04/2011 21:12

Hmmm She would definitely wake up, she sometimes wakes up when I go and look in on her before I go to bed (I quickly run out before she sees me and she goes back to sleep!). I'm hoping it's just a phase?!

What does she have for breakfast? Any cereal will have milk in it. You could up the yoghurt to one after each meal. Try giving her a chocolate milkshake with her afternoon snack (try a beaker rather than a bottle so its not associated with bed or sleep). my ds would absolutely not do a bed time milk do we just got a bit more inventive with getting the calcium in him

She has either Weetabix or Ready Brek, with cows milk. Good idea I could up the yoghurts. She has got really good with her beaker recently so can try some things in there. She wasn't even particularly hungry this morning-didn't eat all her breakfast, so she obviously doesn't need the bottle at night!

I stir a spoonful of soft cheese into almost everything too - pasta, cottage pie, stews etc

sunndydays · 03/04/2011 10:31

Oh that's a good idea, thanks! She has Philadelphia on her toast etc for tea and she likes that

My DD was the same when I stopped BF and my HV also said it was fine if she was getting enough dairy in other forms like cheese, yoghurt etc. She has started taking it again now after I got her into the habit by giving her a few bottles of the ready made Aptamil for a few nights. It has vanilla flavouring in so I imagine it's a little like a milkshake.

Now she has cow's milk and really loves it.
