nail biting problems

dd1 ( nearly 4) has been biting her nails for about a month now. It has got so bad that her fingers are swollen and often bleed, and yesterday we discovered one of her toenails ( she bites those too) was filled with pus so shje has now been put on antibiotics. We really don't know what to do - that nasty tasting nail varnish is suitable only for age 7s and above.
Any ideas or advice very gratefully received

she is a bityoung for nail varnich, plus it isn't allowed in her nursery. This morning it looks like one of her fingernails is also infected and pus filled....we are desperate!

we may have to try the gloves thing, or even bandaging up her fingers completely...why can't she stop????! she picks the skin until it bleeds.
