It has come to my attention that my DS of 6yrs has kicked another child, he is part of a group of 5 boys, they all encourage each other to do things and my DS has been coming home saying that another child threatens them if they dont do what he says, now after today I cant quite say that I believe him anymore? The teacher told me that Jack sometimes does instigate things and is physical, (not hitting) but grabby! which I am aware of and im trying to find ways of helping him to stop that??

I am mortified that he has actually been part of this incident which happened yesterday where a little boy and himself hurt another child, were there friends chanting "fight, fight fight"!! how can I sort this out, I have spoken with the school and all parents involved. The child that was subject to this actually said that it wasnt my DS but the teacher said my DS admitted it??

what is the best way to deal with this?

Give your DS strict guidelines as to how to behave and not be part of a group of boys who bully and are aggressive. Praise him lots when you see him being gently and you hear good reports from school. When you hear bad reports then deprive him of his favourite things after school, i.e. bike, TV, X box etc.

Tell him all this violent behaviour at school is "very bad behaviour". Ask him how he would feel if he was the one who was kicked at school. He is 6 yrs and has empathy and should be able to imagine how it feels to be on the receiving end of being kicked.
Ask him to make you a promise that at school he will be kind and gentle.
Tell him you will be at school at the end of the day to check how he has been. Let him know also that the teachers are always watching everyone during break etc. (I told my DS this and he looked totally surprised).
Importantly let him know he is loved and give him lots of cuddles when you see him behaving in a way you think is good. Children thrive on praise.
I know its not easy, so wishing you luck.!
