did he/she take steps??

Im all excited Grin DD2 just started pulling herself up at 15 months!
I can't remember with DD1 how long, but this time summer is approaching and im imagining lots of lovely slow toddles in the park with DD2 in the sunshine!! :) I know they are all different but how long did the standing and cruising stage last?

Also should you get them their first shoes when they can stand or wait until they take steps?? With my PFB i rushed out and got her some first shoes as soon as she could stand/take one step Blush This time i want to get them when needed and not a second before! Grin

Hi there, my DS has been pulling up to standing since shortly before Christmas. He has just starting taking his first steps though I still wouldn't describe him as "walking".

I have got him some shoes as we go to the park and he can cruise/crawl around on the bridges and climbing frame and frankly I would wear shoes to do that so see no problem with getting him some.

Others will tell you to wait on the shoe front but its very much personal choice.

How exciting for you!!!

DS was quite early with all these things (I think he was pulling up to standing at 7 months and then walking at 1yo)

Instead of shoes i got shocks which give some protection but aren't hard like shoes IYSWAM

Well done your DD :)

Thanks! :)

Those shocks are a good idea, not seen those before!

Ah so they do the cruising bit for a good few months then. I think when she starts getting around the furniture a bit more i will get her some shoes or shocks.

Don't want to rain on your parade, but DS1 pulled himself to standing at 7 months, and then didn't take a single solitary (unaided) step until 17 months! He'd spend hours standing holding on to things, looking around like a little meerkat, but seemed to have no interest in actually going anywhere. Oh, and wrt shoes, I'd definitely wait as long as you can - don't waste your money! I just put an extra pair of thick socks on DS1 when he started walking, if he wanted to go outside (on grass) - for inside toddling, bare feet or normal socks is fine.

AngelDog · 30/03/2011 22:58

About 4 months I think. Standing was around 9 or 10 months IIRC and he's just started walking unaided at 14 months.

I'd understood that shoes aren't necessary until they're walking confidently - and outside. DS wears socks outside (he's not very steady yet) and bare feet indoors.

Lovethesea · 31/03/2011 11:57

Bare feet also help them develop their arches correctly (all that scrunching up of feet to grip) so advice usually is bare feet or socks whenever possible (ie no shoes in the house).

Thanks!

Good point about the developing arches! Will wait until she is a little more confident i think.

DS is now 6 month and has been pulling himself up or a month now. Awaiting the cruising!! Grin Very excited mummy!!

DS pulled himself up to standing at 9 months, cruised at 9.5 months and walked at 15 months

DD pulled herself up to standing around a year I think, cruised around 13 months and walked at 15 months.

I'm going to watch this thread with interest.

DD2 was 1yo a fortnight ago. She crawled properly at about 10 months and has been pulling herself up, cruising very confidently, letting go with one hand etc for the last few weeks. She can stand unaided for about 30 secs or so, but isn't that keen to practice it!

I'm wondering when she'll walk unaided and also have the idyllic vision of her tottering around the park.

We'll see!

4.5 months! She lacked courage before then.
