2 month old sleeping on tummy

Just a quick question, my dd will very happily sleep lay on my chest but will wake as soon as she is put down on her back. I totally appreciate that the fact that she is lay on me has a lot to do with this, but wondered if any one else's lo's sleep or prefer to sleep on their tummy. I am tempted to lay her in her cot on her tummy to see if it helps her settle better, but am aware that all the current advice is that babies should sleep on their back.

My mum says do it, but of course the advice was different when i was a baby.

both my children slept on their tummies - just wouldn't sleep on their backs - I got a monitor that bleeps if they stop breathing just in case

Hi there, my daughter is 3 no but from the time she was born she would wake up if I put her down. Due to having had a c-section I found it better at that time to let her sleep on me and she did all night long for quite a few months and she was ok . But that means no moving side ways for you anyway I think she should do whatever you feel work for you and her.

My baby slept on his front too, and many of my friends babies. i was told that from research it should be ok as long as there are no smokers or alcohol in the area the baby sleeps/lives as those are the main causes of cot death. If they are a strong, healthy baby, able to lift head etc with no problems it should be ok.

DD is almost 10. She was born in Oman where there isn't (or wasn't) a back to sleep campaign. She was put on her front from the start and refused to sleep on her back.

Front sleeping is the biggest risk factor in cot death I believe ninjamonkey.

Bear in mind as well OP that 3 months is the peak time for SIDS. Obviously it's a small risk and totally up to you if you do it, but best to be aware of what the risks are.

DS was only comfortable on his tummy when a newborn. I co-slept with him on my chest until he got to an age when he could tolerate being on his back and then put him in his moses basket (around 12 weeks i think). I figured sleeping with him on me was safer than laying him down on his front alone.

thankyou ladies. The health visitor came today so i mentioned it to her. She obviously (as i expected) said that she should sleep on her back and that under no circumstances would she recommend dd sleeping on her tummy. She did however say that it was my own choice, but that the no. of cot deaths has plummeted since the sleeping on their back recommendations had been introduced.

My Lo sleeps on his tummy sometimes now at 6 months - but only because he rolls himself over in the night! However my friends LO is the same age and will only sleep on his tummy and has done since birth. He is perfectly healthy and OK.

If he won't sleep on his back - he won't sleep on his back and theres unfortunately not a lot you can do i'm afraid!
