First, stop listening to people saying he is small. Tell them how is that helping. Speak to your health visitor if you are really worried.

It can a while to get weight on babies. My lo didn't gain significant weight until about 3months...now she's way over on all scales.
Try (tho I know it's a constant worry that you're not doing enough) NOT to worry. Feed on demand, and if you're worried offer another day feed, or a longer feed. If lo is falling asleep while feeding try wet cloth on the feet as well as all the other 'typical' choices.
Best of luck!

Looking at the growth charts, it looks like he's doing really well. Born on the 9th centile and now between the 9th and 25th, perfect size. Sounds like all's going fine, ignore family maybe they just have naturally bigger babies.

I'm always getting people saying "oh isn't he small" when I tell them my DS is 13 weeks (and 11lbs, 2nd centile). One of these days I will tell them all to mind their own business. If your son is alert and happy and feeding well I wouldn't worry about it.

With my first born I got myself in a real state.

Then I was informed...."Growth charts were designed in 1970's and were aggregated when at least 50% of children were formula fed. "

I worried stupidly with my first born (and weighed every 6 days, at least) then I got involved in some research at local hospital (about something different) and the Consultant explained the background of how the growth charts were set up. They told me important thing is overall trend over the weeks...ie is baby gaining weight, not how doing versus the average.

Second child I got more relaxed and weighed monthly. My third child....was weighed annually, at best :)

Babies weight in first 3 months are all over the place. Its a hobby horse of mine and I am outraged that more HV and MW's don't understand better the background as to how he charts were compiled. Ask them. Many really don't know.

Am not blaming them, but I really understand how sensititive new mothers are.

And I should have added good luck. But if you are going for check ups and he has doubled his weight already it really sounds fine.

Listen to Indaba, good points raised. I too was the paranoid new mum at the weighing clinic every week, texting DH when PFB had put on a few ounces (Blush at the memory); with no. 2 she was weighed every few weeks, and with no.3, lifted up every so often by me with the thought "Yeah, she feels heavier". Just carry on feeding on demand and do not take any notice of your interfering rellies - if we believed everything they say babies in "The old days" were born on their due day weighing 71/2 pounds, fed and winded every 4 hours, slept soundly inbetween feeds, walked at 10 months, were potty-trained at 12 months and could hold a full conversation and order a takeaway at 18 months. So relax, he's fine.
