19 month old reaction to spider

Hi all just wondering how your little ones that are roughly same age as mine react to spiders? My little one saw something on lounge wall tonight and leant over her toy box to have a look then completely freaked out screaming and crying and shaking and completely freaking out. I assumed it was a spider or bug that she had seen as she was staring at the wall, so when she flipped out i wondered if she had been bitten Confused. I pulled toybox back and saw the tiniest money spider you have ever seen crawling along skirting board! I dont know if when it started to move it scared her. Anyway DD is 19 months and has some other developmental issues but was just wondering if this was a normal reaction to a spider for her age or not?
My eldest DD used to be fascinated by bugs and would try to eat them when she was this age!
So guess im just trying to figure out if this is NT reaction or another one of her anxieties

I've no idea what normal toddler behaviour is to spiders, but my DS (nearly 2) saw one a couple of weeks ago and reacted very differently. The spider was scurrying across the floor, and DS thought it was the funniest thing ever. He poked the poor thing rather hard, and it ran off behind the cupboard. DS then spent ages trying to peer behind the cupboard, and playing spiders with his fingers.

Not sure this helps you very much...

Thanks that's what I thought my eldest dd would've done same as your ds! Dd2 just seems to have rather strong reactions and fears for her age and understanding

Chundle if any comfort my DD (2) recently had exactly the same reaction to a spider. And a worm... And an owl. Not sure zoology is an option for future career...
She sounds v like yr DD. Lots of strong reactions.
But wd be interested to know if this is something I shd be concerned about....

Thanks Scarlett. I only really asked as she also objects strongly to being around other kids so wondered if this was another thing she dislikes

My son 2.10 is the same with spiders and flies (and everything really 'cos every bug is a spider to him!) We have had to pull over the car because a greenfly was in it and he went into meltdown just as you described.

Didn't used to be like this - i have no idea how it started I just hope that its a phase that stops soon!

My ds when he was about your dds age saw a caterpillar crawling near our bin in the driveway. He screamed and cried for ages. Honestly I wondered if it was normal too.

He's 3 now and loves bugs, caterpillars, basically anything gross and slimey so I wouldn't wory too much. SOunds like she's quite sensitive and it moving scared her.

This is a sweet little DVD that might help. A friend bought it for me years ago, but my DS has loved it since he was about a year old and it has helped me to avoid passing my (extreme) phobia on to him.
