Rolling and arching

My 14 week old son has started archhing his back to quite a degree when he is lying down on the floor/mat etc. He doesn't do it in a temper or in pain, just for the sake of doing it. Thing is when he does it a few times, he's cottoned onto fact he can move and so when he does this in his cot he ends up all over the place. Any ideas if this is normall?

Also, he rolled from back to front today because he did this so much. if he does this in cot in the night, do I roll him back? I'm concerned he's too young and wont be able to breathe properly.

Thank you

I think it's a reflex thing, my DD did it and it freaked me out a bit because it reminded me of Dsis having a seizure - the same kind of weird spasmy movement. So I asked the HV and she said it's what babies do! She grew out of it after a few weeks.

I think if he rolls onto his front he'll keep his face turned to the side so no need for you to keep a vigil by his cot in case he rolls over. I also think he's unlikely to do it in his sleep in any case.

he sounds like a lively one - he is strengthening his back muscles for moving and sitting - all perfectly normal. Grin
