My 6 mo will not sleep at all during the day for me, unless we are out at another person's house (after a feed she may settle for 20 minutes) or if we are out when she will, after an hour or so of eye rubbing, yawning etc and after a feed, finally drop off and stay asleep when I put her in the pram. At home though, even after a feed she now struggles to sleep if I put her down. She is perfectly capable of sleeping withhout needing to be on the breast though - we hear her wake in the night and play with her toys or talk to herself before going back to sleep, but during the day she never does for me, even after a feed - as soon as I put her down she wakes crying. At weekends my partner looks after her for 3-4 hours whilst I go out cycling and she is fine then and will sleep (not after a feed) for 2 hours!!! This does not seem to affect the amount of sleep she has at night so I assume she must need it, yet when with me during the week, she rarely has more than one half hour all day from 6am until she goes to bed at 8pm, as it's so difficult for me to get her settled during the day time. Will this change once she starts dropping milk feeds? I don't know when this might be though and I'll be back at work in July anyway so I guess she wont have e problem napping at the childminder's. It's just with me that she seems to struggle. I don't necessarily want her to sleep a lot during the day as she's a great night sleeper, but when she's crying with tiredness and obviously falling asleep on the breast yet unable to go into her cot, I wish I could help her get a half hour nap in her cot. I can't hold her for half an hour after feeds really. I have tried but she's so heavy now (8kg) and there are things I really want to do whilst she naps, like go to the loo etc which are more difficult when she's awake as she cries if I leave the room. If anyone has any tips I'd be grateful!
