Napping at home - friends think I need to be more relaxed!

My 9 mo DS used to be a real cat napper - 40 minutes here and there. Recently, he has started napping longer - sometimes 2 hours in an afternoon (fingers crossed I've not jinxed it by this post!). He used to cat nap in his car seat if we were out and about at friends etc. However, now its longer I always tend to make sure he's home in his cot.

I have 2 friends, however, that keep going on that their children used to nap on the sofa or in their pram when they were this age.

Am I being a hung up first time mum about it all - trying to get him home to bed? Should I be more relaxed and allow him to nap wherever? I do sometimes miss out on gatherings and social times with friends as I bring him home!!

My Ds slept in pushchair/pram at home as wouldn't sleep in bed - so opposite way round. Just becaiuse he was in the pushchair didn't mean I didn't get any free time...........sigh how I miss those days!

It is basically whatever wrks best for you isn't it?

My ds wouldn't sleep in a cot at all in the day despite MASSIVE efforts from me, day in and day out. He didn't do much more than catnap until 6 months FULL STOP when my mother bought me a Urban Mini City Jogger pushchair. This changed everything. He is 17 months now and still sleeps for 1.5 - 2 hours a day in the pushchair but just won't sleep in a cot - even at nursery! This means I can go where I like!

I was very strict with DS1 while following Gina Ford routine and he also slep perfectly. I would never go out at lunchtime, he always went into his cot and slept for a good 2 - 3 hrs and it was pure bliss - Not only did it make life easy for me but never had an behavioural problems. A few of my friends said I was mad but taking out a grizzly child into a restaurant isnt fun either and completely knocked the rest of the day out. He wasnt one for sleeping in the pushchair either. Cot is the best quality sleep.

I'm a firm believer in doing whats best for the childs future and now at 5 he is a fantastic sleeper and in general well behaved and extremely healthy.

You do what suits the child not what suits mum. This isnt wasted time its time when you get chores done, and plan the day.

You sound like a good mum to me!
