Baby sticking tongue out constantly

My son is nearly 6 weeks old and since birth I have noticed (and others have) that his tongue is stuck out almost constantly. I am starting to worry that there is a problem with him .

He seems fine in every other way, feeding well, sleeps ok, holds his head up alot, limbs are VERY strong and we are getting lots of big smiles from him.

I'm not sure whether to worry or not, I have consulted Dr Google and can find nothing about this, so I know it's probably fine. I just can't seem to stop feeling concerned about it.

Did anyone elses baby do this?

When my DD2 realised she could stick it out, for a couple of weeks that's all she kept doing - was cute. If you have real concerns, speak to your HV.

Is he feeding well?

He is FF and is a complete guzzler and putting on weight normally. I have our 6 week check next Thursday with the Dr and I have also spoken to the HV who have put it down in his notes for the Dr to see.

I am not overly worried (the HV wasn't either), but I just wondered it it was a common thing with young babies.

my daughter done it too but she is 5 months now and has stopped but was doing it almost all the time! my mum said it had to do with teething??? not sure how true it is though!

My DS was/is exactly the same! I worried about it all the time, I have loads of photos of him with his tongue out. He too slept/fed normally.

He's 18mo now and keeps it in most of the time unless he is thinking. So you should find, especially once he has grown teeth, that he sticks it out a lot less. However DS is not saying an (intelligible) word yet so I'm not sure about my worry about his tongue related to speech yet.

I'd be interested in what your Dr says if you care to repost next week.

Don't worry, anyway Smile
