How to get 4yo's attention when he's overexcited

Does anyone have any idea how I can get through to ds1 (4.6) when he's gone silly with excitement or overtiredness? He just giggles manically and makes random noises, and won't make eye contact - if I hold his hands and try to keep him in front of me to talk he goes all floppy and giggles on the floor instead... It doesn't take all that much to get him excited - especially since he started school in January.

Watching with interest...! I think they get to a point of no return and then it's very difficult!

Before this point being told to calm down, or having a reason to calm down- an incentive often works wonders! You need to calm down and then you can x,y or z.

Me too - my nearly-five DS1 isnt quite as bad but he does stop listening or making eye contact and starts repeating silly nonesense stuff in a silly voice to himself over and over again. Does it especially when we are away on holiday. He's quite normal and lucid most of the time otherwise.

Had three girls before and never had this Confused Glad its not just me!

love musical theatre - but only if someone else is singing!

Thanks! I will try bursting into song, but knowing ds1 he would just join in... I've tried telling him to calm down when I see he's getting silly, but it's water off a duck's back. His teacher says it's sometimes hard to get his attention too (though he doesn't go all silly in class), but he's lovely and keen when he is concentrating!

DS just screams 'Nooooo' if I burst into song (I wonder why? Confused)

Any more ideas?

I am now told by my 2 year old "No! Not you song!"

Both (4 and 2) like to dictate when and when I am allowed to join in with their singing, or indeed sing by myself.
