10 months, not crawling

DS, 10 months old and not showing any signs of crawling. He loves to roll from back to front, front to back + also to sit and reach. He's a very happy lively baby.

A friend came round and suggested he was too fat to crawl - he's 10.13kg and loves his food and milk. It really upset me, even though I know she meant well. She suggested cutting a milk feed. He has 3 bottles - morning (5oz), afternoon (5oz) and eve (9oz). He was BF til 5 months and now aptamil formula (no.3). I did try cutting one afternoon feed but he was really upset about it, seemed v hungry and didn't settle til he'd eaten.

Do I need to worry? I know they all develop at different paces...

Don't worry about it. DS2 was enormously fat and didn't crawl till nearly 11 months - but was walking by 14 months, so not particularly late in the end. He's not too fat to crawl; he's fat because he's not crawling, but once he starts moving, he'll slim down a bit.

Honestly, 10 months isn't particularly late.

None of mine crawled at 10 months - completely normal (although mine were all very chubby too!). Babies should be chubby - don't listen to your friend. He might just bypass crawling and walk, or else he'll start crawling at some stage - please don;t worry - he is doing great Smile

Your friend sounds like a cheeky cow, but anyway..
My dc didn't even begin to attempt to crawl until a week before her first birthday, she was also a late walker, 18 months.
I bet he's absolutely fine, worry not.

duckymum · 12/03/2011 15:57

DD never crawled, went straight to walking with the odd bit of bottom shuffling. I was amused watching her trying to copy much younger children crawling when she was about 18 months.
Don't think you should be worrying at this stage.

angelPeacock · 13/03/2011 21:29

dont worry, if theyre sitting and rolling fine then i would say theyre fine!

my DS wasnt rolling till 9/10 months, only sat at 11 months and so on.....so 10 months and doing all except crawling to me sounds ok huni. if you are worried though, have a chat with your HV. huggles xxx

Don't worry. My DS is now 13 months and started crawling in the classic style bout 4/5 weeks ago. He started "command crawling" when he was 11 months. They all have their own timings!

I wouldn't worry; neither of mine crawled at 10 months! DD1 crawled at 11 months, DD2 at 15 months.

If you are concerned, or would like reassurance of a more formal kind, take your DS to see the Health Visitor or GP.

Don't worry, mine did not crawl until nearly 1. It's very normal

milanomum · 14/03/2011 14:21

Mine didn't crawl at all. Just bum-shuffled and then walked. Wouldn't worry about it!

RuthC85 · 14/03/2011 14:42

Im shocked ur friend said that to you how rude, your baby is not too fat to crawl and where do you thinj the term baby fat came from they need fat to grow and when the time is right for your lo this "fat" will drop off when hes crawling and espesh when hes walking sounds like your doing a great job, im no expert but wouldnt drop a feed unless hes no longer looking for/ taking it

RuthC85 · 14/03/2011 14:44

just to add every child is different i have 3 and altho they look alike they r v different my youngest is 5 months and at that age my older 2 were sitting unaided and rolling and he isnt yet but im not worried cos he will do it when hes ready

BeeMyBaby · 14/03/2011 14:59

My DD zombie crawled at 11 months, and only started to roll slightly after that, she is quite skinny so I don't think weight has anything to do with it.

Firawla · 14/03/2011 16:43

one of mine didnt crawl til after 10 months either, he is also big (both tall and heavy) but i think the way your friend said it "too fat to crawl" just comes across a bit rude. i would ignore though i doubt she means any harm. and wouldn't worry just yet about the crawling, as long as he spends time down on the floor so he has oppertunity to practise and try to crawl if he wants to then he will do it in his own time
