Any swimming teachers - why is my ds2's swimming so inconsistent?

He swam 15 metres easily on Sunday and was delighted to get his badge.

Then we went swimming on Thursday and seemed to struggle after a few metres Hmm

How old is he?

Wallace · 11/03/2011 21:35

He is 4.

Actually I've just realised that probably answers my question. He is only 4 Blush

I have a 3 and 4 year old, and yes I see this a lot with my DDs and all the others in their lessons. If they have been ill, are a bit tired, hungry or just not in the mood, it can vary dramatically. I think that they use so much energy and effort that it can take not much at all to upset the momentum of swimming. DD1 who will be 5 in May, is now becoming more consistent, but DD2 who will be 4 in May each time in her lessons when they learn a new skill, e.g. bigger arms for front crawl, better breathing, it can upset it again for a weeks while the concentration seems to be on the new skill.

Ah, that is probably it. He has just started trying to do front crawl arms (not really taught, just started doing it)

From my experience that seems to make sense Smile

I would agree its because they master something so are then taught/ encouraged to use/do a new skill. So effectively thay are learning again.

Thanks, that is good to know ::)
