Well I mean toddlers? DD is 15 months and bables away constantly but doesn't make any sense. I'm not looking for sentences or anything but wondered when she would start using a few words?

Although knowing my DD she'll say nothing for months then come out with long sentences all in one go.

Ds not saying any words and he's 18 months. I'm not worried because he babbles constantly and I've been told not to worry until he's 2!!

My dd is 18 months and says a few things like hi, mum and dad but never in context. It is mostly babbling. Don't worry about it.

she said bar first? dh would be impressed!

sweetkitty - you may find that she is saying words now, but you only realise that later on when the words become clearer. that happened with both of my two - I guess i realised what they were saying at about 20 (dd) and 17 (ds) months.

my ds started to talk at 13mths but my dd could babble but only i could understand her.she could not really talk properly until she was 2.5-3yrs.i used to look after a little girl who spoke in sentences at 12 mths.

My dd said very little until she was nearly two and now you REALLY cannot shut her up (she's two and half now).
Her latest question was:'do they have coke in heaven?"
She was classed as a late talker. I think on average they have about 10 words by 18 months.

dot1 · 27/10/2005 12:33

ds1 only had 1 word at about 18 months, then not much else at all until he was 2. Now he's nearly 4 and his language skills are amazing. Ds2 hasn't shut up since the day he was born - is 18 months and has about 200 words. But I know by the time he's 4 he'll probably be the same as his older brother!

Try not to worry - your dd is babbling and that's great - they all do things at different times at this age and then seem to even out when they're a bit older!

my experience is similar to dot's. dd1 managed her first real word on her 18 month anniversary.
dd2 (the 4th child) started telling jokes in complete sentences at 22 months.

My dd is 17mths and only has 3 clear words, mama, dada and Balamory. But she can dance and "sha-la-la" to Amarillo! I'm quite enjoying the silence at the mo. Once she starts, if she's anything like ds2, I'll be pleading for a second of silence

sweetkitty - when you say the babble doesnt make sense, do you mean it wouldnt make sense if you wrote it down or that you cant undertand her? Ds is 17 montsh and will do thing like take my hand, drag me to teh living room, point at the Tv and let out a string of babble. i kwno he is asking for the Tv to be turned on from the context, but teh babble doenst include any proper words.

He says the usual mama, dada, hiya, byebye and not a lot else.
